I would like to officially retract my statement that I’m wasn’t going to make my monetary goal for July my goal was 20k (1k a day minus the days I work).

It seemed like a long shot during my last blog post but I’ve tore up the last week for 15k.  I’ve made $19k playing hold’em and a couple hundred playing omaha.

So theres my graph for the month,  I owe it largely to heads up nl and a certain few donks on my buddy list who always like to donate to my scholarship fund.  I feel like I have very good game selection when it comes to NL, which is something that I used to really ignore on my way up.  It’s always something that I need to continue practicing when playing PLO… especially since I’m not that strong at PLO in the first place.

Well, I still don’t have a place to live… nor a car but I’ll save the more non-poker content for next time.

not a bad month, pretty good overall actually.  Lost 2k today after being up about 2k.  then ran super cold playing o8 and lost a couple big pots (3kish) at 5/10plo to a donk on my buddylist… oh well it happens.

Going out to my girlfriends tomorrow for Canada Day, should be fun.

Mosquitoes are ridiculously thick at the golf course this year, we’re using mosquitoes repellant that is usually used on horses haha…  no seriously.

So I figured out my school for this year, now just need to find a roof to put over my head.  I’m starting classes for the business courses in September, kind of tentative about all the math since I haven’t done any formal math classes for 3 years.

Having another great month poker-wise, just coming off a $4500 day so far thanks to chasing a donk.  Won about $4200 at 30/60 with him in the game with $3500ish coming directly from him.  Then he went to 25/50nl and I managed to chopped a 6k pot with KQ on a Q9J3 board… vs K4.  So today is obviously a very very good day but fading the 4 outer chop would have made it truely epic.

I’m on pace to make about what I made last month but probably won’t get there since i’m working the next 3 days and playing after work like I did today is rare because i’m usually exhausted.

Will need to fire off another blog in the next couple days to ensure I don’t lose my bet with Pat.

I’m having another good month. About 80% of my profit has come from playing NL (mostly heads up) and the other 20% has from from playing PLO. I’ve been trying to play more PLO lately as it seems to be where the action is heading in the last little while and people still play it very badly (myself included probably). Although i’m still in the black in my dabbling with PLO I have lost every pot that has been over 100bb

I lost an 8k pot (biggest i’ve ever played) after getting it in on the flop with 67% equity (vs 16% and 17% respectively).

Then I lost a 6k pot today at 10/20 omaha when I flopped a set, in a re-raised pot, i just flatted the flop to push over a safe turn and ended up getting it in vs a wrap and a flush draw which i’m pretty sure is virtually a flip. And his straight card hit on the river.

All in all its been a good month poker-wise… now if only I could figure out what i’m doing for school in September.

As the month ends I feel a lot less fortunate than I should.  I ran suuuuuuper hot for the first half of the month then cooled off basically breaking even for the second half finishing up +$17500 on the month.  Although it’s pretty much my best month to date psychologically it doesn’t seem that great because of the second half, poker fucks with me like that.  However as the month comes to a close I look back and am extremely happy with the way things have turned out

Made top tier of Iron Man on FTP this month, seems pretty useless though.

Was going to buy a BMW but Canada just recently changed their automotive import laws fucking me over, going to wait until the end of summer now and don’t know what i’ll end up getting.

I start working at the golf course again tomorrow morning… at 5:30am, fuck me.  Woke up at 8:30 this morning so I can hit the sack early tonight.  Good thing I have the perfect thing to put me to sleep: CardRunners videos.  Better than a glass of warm milk.  Not to knock CR or anything, I love the vids and they have help me tremendously since the first one I saw.  However for some reason whenever I watch videos I watch them in bed and like clockwork I’ll pass out about 1/3rd of the way through them even if its 1 in the afternoon.

So I’ve almost exceeded my goal threefold. I’m up ~14k on the month despite what the graph reads. I’ve gave some back in PLO and some tournies.

I got bored of cap games and started playing some 2/4-5/10 6max games with good results thusfar. I’m going to try to determine which is going to be most profitable. I had a brief conversation with Mike regarding softness of games and I think we both tended to agree that 5/10 tends to actually be softer than 2/4. My logic behind this is that 2/4 is filled with tooooons of regulars who are just grinding grinding grinding out a profit day in and day out. At 5/10 however you tend to find a few more random donks meandering into your crosshairs. Maybe I’ll touch on this some more after more experience at these tables

A big FUCK YOU to to Mike and your Quizno’s brag post. Although I’m not jealous, it seems whatever good fortune i’ve had on the tables this month has been the inverse for him. Probably result of bad karma from brag. I’ve never had more cooler hands sent to me in a 30 minute period than I have had bombarded at me tonight.

I wasn’t happy with how I played this hand, lost a ton of value. In hindsight it is a decent line to catch some bluffs however. I didn’t feel her range was that strong because of the call preflop. So could really only put her on a mid-pair, 9x, 22 or air. I didn’t plan on folding at any point in the hand and probably should have just got the money in on the turn – Hand 1

So I recently bought out of the prop bet with Mike as I’ve been playing higher stakes cap games and it wasn’t worth it for me to grind out another 12k hands at 100nl.

So as I said I’ve been playing a lot of cap games recently with great results thus far. I decided to start at 1/2 to get a feel for how the games play at stakes that a 10 buy-in swing wouldn’t really hurt me at. I moved to playing about half 1/2 and half 2/4 because cap games don’t run all that often and I like to have 4 tables going. Anyways there is really only 1 or 2 people that I’m not happy to see at the table when I sit down and I feel like the rest of the people that play these games just may be semi-retarded.

I started playing them the last week of April and saw how badly I was beating them up, I set myself what I thought to be a challenging but attainable goal of a $5,000 May. However I’ve managed to surpass that goal already, only 1 week into the month. This is mainly thanks to a couple shot’s I’ve taken at 25/50 following around an over aggro-donk. The first time I played I lost $2500 before getting even and quitting. The second time I played a friend of mine took 2/3 of my action, which allowed me to not worry about the money so much. I ended up winning $2500 that session, so about +$800 after paying out the 2/3. My third and biggest foray into 25/50 was a couple nights ago. It was about 1:30am and I was just getting into bed, my head hit but apparently I had forgot to mute my computer as I hear the *ding dong* doorbell of my poker buddylist. Turns out it was my favourite donk, and he was playing heads up with another fish. It was to juicy to pass up and I ended up winning nearly $4k with 100% of myself this time.

So here’s my two graphs, the first one is $$ won, second is BB won. I’m running at about 4.34bb/100 and despite running well at the 25/50 game which obviously has boosted my results I’m running quite a bit below equity over-all in terms of BB won.

For some stupid reason I decided to play a couple tournaments last night, the $109 on stars and FTP both started at the same time so i registered for both. Quickly donked out of the $109-6max on FTP but went deep in the Stars tourny. I ran pretty good in my flips. Lost one late with AK that would have put me at chip leader, but I quickly gained back the chips I lost stealing blinds. I got to the final table with about 85k in chips, a really comfortable stack probably around average.

Very early I found myself with JJ on the button facing a raise from an average stack to 15k, and a short stack shoved for ~40k. I isolated with red Jacks, having the shortstacks range crushed. He instead flipped up blacks Kings, there were 3 hearts on the flop but that’s as close as I got.

Soon I found myself in the SB with KJ and one of the chip leaders made an open on the button, I’m obviously ahead of his BTN stealing range and shoved in. Next thing I know the BB is iso-shoving over the top, with 77 and I’m raising for a hand that’ll put me right back in this. flop came down AAJ giving me a virtual lock on the hand. Except fo the 7-ski that came on the turn putting me out in 9th place for something between 6-700, don’t really know, I was playing for the $9k first the entire time.

I really don’t know how or why all of these younger online pros grind out tournaments all day everyday. This is a perfect example of the varience in Multi-table tournaments. I played this tourny 4-5 hours, outlasting 400+ people and the difference between 9th place and 1st place is over $8,000 in a $100 buy-in tourny. Now, obviously if you could get 9th place everytime its about $100 profit/hour. But you’re not final tabling every tournament. It’s completely feasible to go 0/20 in cashes alone if you’re not getting lucky in some key spots. Wanna play a tournament? No thanks, I’ll stick to grinding out cash games. With maybe the occasional tournament on the side when I feel like I want to hate life or something.

Actually sessioning as I write this so I’ll post some stats/graphs immediately afterwards.

I’m almost done my exams, 2 down and my last one is on Saturday. I feel pretty decent about what I’ve done so far, but I’ve had bigger shocks in my life. It’ll be nice to get home but I’ll miss my girlfriend. Anyways on to poker.

I’ve just been playing 4 tables for my past couple sessions, I’ve noticed I’ve been able to develop much stronger reads while only playing 4 tables as opposed to 10-12. Was actually just able to fold top pair on the turn (T8 on a T933 backdoor flush draw board based on a way the player had played a previous hand – in addition to his nitty pokertracker stats) and I was kindly showed QQ after I folded, which was nice.

Also something else I’ve noticed while stepping down in limits. At higher limits (even 1/2) there are certain regulars who’s game I respect and barring certain circumstances (uber fish) I will try to avoid their tables. However I have not yet run into a single decent 100nl player on pokerstars who has made my time tough while they had position on me. I also have noticed that the 3 bet frequency in the games drastically drops, which is to be expected and pretty much common knowledge.

Anyways heres my graph so far for the prop bet. Lost half a buyin in the last orbit on a hand where the board came out backdoor 4 flush (spades) on the river. My opponent block bet the river for about 1/4 pot and I decided to bluff raise with air. He tanked and eventually decided to call with the Qs and the pot was shipped to him.
